HOW IT WORKS

Instead of filtering, the ION uses a silver-treated medium to deactivate pathogens as water flows over it. Insert the device into a 750 mL bottle, shake for 30 seconds, and it deactivates 99% of E. coli, meeting international drinking water standards.

Ionic silver is a well-validated, safe antibacterial agent. Field trials in Nepal confirmed lab results from U.S. testing.

Unlike many purification methods that clog, require frequent replacement, or are costly and bulky—and unlike unreliable boiling or solar disinfection—the ION is durable, clog-free, and lasts at least six months. Its effectiveness, size, and affordability make safe drinking water accessible for individuals and families worldwide.

The ION is designed to fit in a personal water bottle, which is its intended primary use. Patents are issued and pending.

Analytical Testing

The ION has been certified by 3 outside analytical testing labs, meeting WHO and EPA drinking water guidelines.

Field Testing & Use

The ION has been field tested in five countries, producing doctor-verified reports and strong user testimonials.

Silver Aqua partnered with Village Forward—a U.S. 501(c)(3) with operations in Kathmandu, Nepal—to run ION field trials. Village Forward also produces the Aquasif, a household water system using the same silver-ion technology, now serving over 250,000 people in Nepal.

UNICEF is one of the NGOs that purchased and distributed Aquasif systems. Clinical testing overseen by local medical doctors confirmed that the use of Aquasifs in homes has resulted in striking reductions in bowel infections in school children.

In Nepal, two six-month ION trials were conducted in primary and secondary schools, with doctors monitoring health outcomes through monthly blood and stool samples.

Field use of the ION will anticipate a wide variety of population need situations, including households, schools, refugee camps, tent cities, disaster relief situations, and people displaced due to military action. Collaboration with Non-Government organizations (NGOs) will enable the acceleration of the ION’s social impact
